Yes, it would seem beyond crackers. All the papers will be full of headlines about the annual NHS winter crisis. It’d be too cold to knock doors. Aged party members would revolt. For those reasons, surely it’d be October or November.

I don’t understand why Number 10 is pushing this line. 1. Labour will be anxious to avoid complacency about a big win. 2. It’s just plainly wrong for anyone who understands the history of elections and simple maths. Why is Sunak peddling this?

We’re underway at the WM Mayoral/PCC counts.

Some clues from yday:

-Good Labour performance in Dudley. Tories holding up in Walsall.
-Turnout 4% lower than 2021 in Tory stronghold Solihull.
-Bham is the big unknown.

Other clues also available.

Estimated result time 2-4pm.

One more thing to note: the Greens won the popular vote in - 18,328 compared to 16,446 for Labour. That’s the story of this election - as well as an historic Conservative collapse. Next question: what do those Green voters do in a GE?

…seat, is if large numbers of voters stick with the Greens in the Parliamentary contest, splitting the vote. You’d think that prospect appears unlikely based on what we’ve seen today.

….also send shockwaves through the party locally as we approach a General Election. The council is still in NOC, with Labour 1 short of an overall majority, which again shows how far the Greens have come. It now appears that the only way Labour won’t win the Parliamentary 2/3

Blimey. Just one Conservative councillor left in (Alan Amos, who ironically is a former Labour MP and councillor). By my reckoning that’s the worst Tory result since the β€˜modern’ authority came into being in 1974 - below even their own dismal expectations. It will 1/3
