Chris K. Sakys Michael Kiley Nicole Shanahan It’s all too much to type, but if you’re actually interested in the history of autism and why our existence isn’t a “holocaust” or “epidemic,” please read “Neurotribes,” by Steve Silberman
A great piece written by an #actuallyautistic scholar: neuroclastic.com/its-a-spectrum…

I am enjoying reading NeuroTribes at the moment. It provides great insight into how the understanding of autism has changed over time. I am looking forward to having a conversation with Steve Silberman to find out more about his research. eventbrite.co.uk/e/a-conversati…

If you really want to get into the spirit of #WorldAutismAwarenessDay I thoroughly recommend reading #NeuroTribes by Steve Silberman
It will definitely raise your awareness (and hopefully your understanding and acceptance)
[1/4] Tips for folks who want to be good allies during #AutismAcceptanceMonth :
1. Most autistic people prefer to be called 'autistic' rather than 'people with autism.'
2. Listen to autistic people.
3. Avoid demeaning/inaccurate terms like 'high functioning' and 'low functioning.'
Today is #WorldAutismAwarenessDay . No one ever explained the difference between awareness and acceptance better than this 14-year-old in Australia. Please read my in-depth history of autism and neurodiversity, NeuroTribes, and books by great autistic authors like Eric Michael Garcia.
