the riot police have trampled the encampment and are now occupying the area outside the chapel

the students stuck on the perimeter could only watch in horror as those inside the encampment were dragged across the ground in the shadow of the rotunda. they’re now chanting “where were you in ‘17?” when the same cops let nazis beat students

until state police showed up, nothing had changed since the students were holding a somber vigil here last night. they were singing, praying, making art, and studying for finals. it was quiet. now it’s a police standoff.

hearing through the grapevine that UVA president jim ryan is refusing to speak to anyone about the riot cops surrounding students in the shadow of the rotunda.

UVA appears to have unilaterally changed policy on tents *this morning* to help justify calling upon the police to arrest protestors.
