Natural gas people: We have had federal permitting of interstate pipelines since 1938

Electricity people: We hope to have federal permitting of interstate transmission lines in a few special parts of the country by 2038

The Texas power system is very poorly designed

1. Isolation from two main grids in the U.S. to evade federal regulation

2. Energy-only market that generally does not provide enough revenue for peaking plants and depends on events like Winter Storm Uri to supply 'missing money'

Typical corporate lobbyist: I am a 'textualist' and believe this language should be read as 'the FTC does NOT have the authority to write competition rules'

Today, History repeats itself.

On May 8th 1945, as victory against the horrible holocaust machine was claimed, 45,000 of my people (🇩🇿) were massacred by 🇫🇷 colonial army for marching for freedom.

The persisting paradox of celebrating freedom with oppression across the sea.

NEW: Jonathan Masur and Eric Posner (both at UChicago Law School) argue that the FTC's recent ban on noncompete clauses is lawful under the plain language of the FTC Act, longstanding court precedent, and well-established administrative law principles.

On August 22nd 1943, ‘The Statesman’ published this photo of the Bengal famine, which resulted in the deaths of 3 million Indians.

The famine was caused by Winston Churchill's policies, who ordered the export & stockpiling of food in case Europe needed it as the war dragged on.

I can’t stop thinking about the Israeli police officer who interrogated me when I was arrested for trying to bring food into Gaza who said to me there are no innocents in Gaza, not even a fetus in a womb.
I’ll continue to dedicate my life to solidarity for as long as it takes.

For long-term survival of an industry, markets must be governed. Options include:

1. Monopoly and oligopoly
2. Coordination among rivals
3. Public regulation

U.S. public policy since the late 19th century, and especially since the 1970s, has favored 1 and disfavored 2 and 3

Robert Zieger's history of the CIO makes clear that Harry Truman succeeding FDR was a major blow to American liberalism, a significant rightward shift on both domestic and foreign policy

Extremely strong new statement here.

“Many of my colleagues are going to express concern & horror about the crimes against humanity that are about to unfold…Do not not be misled, they gave their consent for these atrocities & our country is actively participating in genocide.”

In 1986 Harvard University threatened us as well with suspension for protesting apartheid S. Africa. Our response was similar. Well done. Univ. Pres. Garber emailed alumni today soliciting support for his crackdown. I wrote him back with a counter proposal: that he accede to the students…

THREAD: On Tuesday evening it appeared the end was finally in sight. Hamas formally accepted the ceasefire proposal put forward by Egypt and Qatar, and spontaneous celebrations erupted in the streets Rafah and other Palestinian towns in the Gaza Strip.
