I revisited MAD MAX tonight. It’s remarkable how quaint the original film feels in comparison to the bombastic post-apocalyptic films the series would eventually become. I know the original film is set an undetermined future, but it really just seems like it’s set in Australia.

I really dug HOUSE OF BLOOD by Zach 'Kaiju Blues prelaunch!' Chapman and a murders’ row of fantastic artists. It’s the perfect blend of bite-size horrors, told with wonderful imagination (some concepts I’ve never seen before in horror comics) and stunning visuals. Give this horror comic anthology a read!

If they keep making PLANET OF THE APES movies, I hope they take a break from the human vs ape conflict for a while. I just want to see other genres applied to the franchise - think of a western or a heist movie or a pirate movie or a rom-com, but staring hyper intelligent apes.

I once saw a picture of Mattress Mack and Lou Ferrigno doing coke together at a Houston promotional event. Glad to see he’s a completely chill dude now, at least, right?

I want to see an eventual PLANET OF THE APES sequel where the avian population rises up against their simian overlords.

BABES is a super funny raunchy blast about friendship and the importance of birth control. Ilana Glazer is in full-on BROAD CITY mode again. This movie will put so many smiles on so many faces and you can see it early tomorrow at the Alamo LaCenterra.

I really enjoyed Brian Doherty’s DIRTY PICTURES, an exhaustive and humanistic look at the first few generations of cartoonists who started the underground comix movement. As inspirational as it is detrimental to the size of my “to read” list.

GRENDEL is an incredible book and Robert Krzykowski is an incredibly cool dude. I can't wait to see what he's putting together with the Henson Company.
