Born on this day in 1911, in the wonderful seaside town of #Morecambe , Thora Hird, actress and for many years much-loved presenter of BBC's Songs of Praise

Latterly she lived in the Lancashire village of Slyne-with-Hest with views from her house towards the beautiful bay.

where the clouds of earth’s sorrows are lifted at last.

Today: S. Nicomede, Martyr:
A titular church of Rome, mentioned in the 5th cent., was dedicated to this saint. The feast of the dedication of his church on 1 June was kept alongside the 15th September feast of his martyrdom. Only the 1 June feast day was carried over to the  #BCP .

Here we are on a beautiful afternoon at Upper Falls, #Aysgarth , Yorkshire.
Then we walked to the Middle and Lower Falls. Turner painted these views in 1816.
