I worked on a trans health research project where trans staff members were getting misgendered by cis staff and the PIs asked the trans folks to lead a training for the cis staff. Oh, and they fired the only Black trans woman on the team 2 weeks into the pandemic.

Be teachable. Be curious. A lot of us that have been in the fight for liberation for awhile are trying to show you how these struggles are connected. How anti-Blackness and police brutality show up in the protest space. How land defenders feel on our own traditional territory. 1/

One unexpected surprise of completing campus visits is the connections you make. After my campus visits this cycle, I've had five people (all MSW or PhD students) join the queer/trans research team I lead. It makes this job search process so much more worth it.

I love how folx think students aren't learning because they're not in a physical classroom. Have ya heard of land-based learning? It's a huge part of Indigenous pedagogy, literally how we've passed knowledge for centuries. These students are embodying their learning right now.

I support insider/outsider research, but I must admit that it's so disappointing to see cis people lead work on trans joy and gender euphoria, especially since many trans scholars are doing work in these areas. Sigh.

I've been thinking often of how we should begin to think of the Black Panther Party as the true origins of social work, in terms of what social work should truly be. Real social work provides care in whatever way care is needed - it does not expect compliance in a 'service' or
