Like all doctors I have seen the struggle of people addicted to smoking trying to quit, as their addiction destroys their health, independence and life. Many die from smoking.

Most smokers wish they had never started but their choices were taken away by addiction to nicotine.

Most people prioritise quality of life over quantity, and medical practice should reflect that.

The death of Martha Mills had a real impact right across the country.

Parents, patients, and NHS staff could all sympathise with her parents’ call for a single, easy process to escalate concerns when they can see their loved one’s condition worsening.

The NHS is again leading the way with the latest innovations that help improve patients’ experience of difficult procedures and increase efficiency. While the sponge on a string is small in size, it can make a big difference for patients.
