What if I told you you could win a prize whose name is Brian? 99% of you will have clicked the link already ("you had me at Brian"). But perhaps I can sway the remaining 1% by saying that the prize comes with a fancy publication and £1500? thebritishacademy.ac.uk/prizes-medals/…

Been reading a lot of books about parenting recently. But none of them have taught me how to pull off what is, arguably, the most important aspect of parenting: ensuring that your child does not find out that Darth Vader is Luke's father before watching The Empire Strikes Back

I don't want to say that it's like in August 1966 when the Beatles played two cities in one day but this afternoon, Hwa Young Kim is giving our joint paper on Normative Behaviourism in Zürich *and* I am presenting me and Lasse Nielsen's paper on extreme wealth in Bamberg.

Last week, my PhD-student @NatashaOsben successfully defended her thesis. She shows that the obstacles and disadvantages many people face are due to state harm (rather than bad luck or poor choices). Her thesis is convincing, relevant, and (her examiners said) brilliant. Yaaay!

At this point this site is only good for finding articles and GTAs, so here goes: I'm looking for a GTA to teach one seminar a week on immigration ethics at King's, starting NEXT WEEK (or the week after). Write to me at [email protected] with your CV if interested.

Strong analysis by Hwa Young Kim on the moral complicity of social media platforms in injustice. The upshot? Tax 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

Political philosophers! If you are (or know of) an early career researcher who might like to come to York for 2 years as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie postdoctoral fellow, I'd be very interested to receive initial enquiries by email. Spent the last two days at New York University with Juliana Bidadanure, revising our entry on Egalitarianism for the Stanford Encyclopedia in Philosophy. It's almost fully cooked (and as am I, given the scorching New York heat)

Most take for granted that wealthy countries are permitted in refusing permanent entry to migrants from poorer countries. A reason often given is "freedom of association" or "associational autonomy". This (now published!) paper shows why that doesn't work: journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/73…

When can claims for more opportunities or resources be made in the name of justice? In a new paper, Liam Shields and I explore this question (in a highly technical and abstract manner). Feast your eyes on this (v conceptual and not v practical) beauty: cambridge.org/core/journals/…
