This morning, 36 parents and carers of children at Bright Start Nursery sent an open letter to Cllrs Bella Sankey, Jacob Taylor and Lucy Helliwell calling on them to #SaveBrightStart. This is what we said:

This is happening again, our beloved council run nursery is under threat of being closed or at beta reduced, and so is a local school, which would leave the north Laine with very few children provision. Please sign our petition! chng.it/N2697LWdSb

Surprised to see Cllr Lucy Heliwell has time to run for parliament, whilst closing two much loved schools and decimating Bright Start nursery ... Maybe this explains why we've never heard from her? #savebrightstart

Really disappointing that Brighton & Hove Labour Party refused to engage with this proposal last night. They won't even explain why they don't think it would work.

Pretty galling to hear Brighton & Hove Labour Party claim they're maintaining all the Council-run nurseries in the same week that Save Bright Start Nursery, Brighton parents have been told that there will no longer be any under 2s provision from September. On #IWD we’d like to thank all the amazing women working at Bright Start Nursery. Childcare is a feminist issue, and it is disappointing that Bright Start staff are spending this #InternationalWomensDay worried about their jobs because of Brighton & Hove Labour Party/Brighton & Hove City Council cuts.

Nursery places would boost the local economy more than consultants Brighton & Hove Labour Party/Bella Sankey. Lack of affordable childcare is a huge constraint on the labour market.
