An atrocious weather day near the #NorthYorkshire coast with some places seeing over half an inch of rain and temps barely into double digits. ☹️💦
After hearing that Carex lasiocarpa was flowering profusely at Askham Bog this year (normally 'shy flowerer') I checked Yorkshire Wildlife Trust - North Yorkshire Fen Bog. Sure enough, many flowering spikes. Also male & female spikes of the tiny C. dioecious in a flush.

A nice circular walk through the forest onto Fylingdales Moor from Maybeck car park this morning. 3 Tree pipits, 2 Cuckoo, 2 Garden Warbler, Crossbills, Siskins, male Whinchat and several family parties of Stonechats. Whitby Naturalists NorthYorksBirdNews
