An atrocious weather day near the #NorthYorkshire coast with some places seeing over half an inch of rain and temps barely into double digits. ☹️💦

After hearing that Carex lasiocarpa was flowering profusely at Askham Bog this year (normally 'shy flowerer') I checked Yorkshire Wildlife Trust - North Yorkshire Fen Bog. Sure enough, many flowering spikes. Also male & female spikes of the tiny C. dioecious in a flush.

Common but colourful moths in the trap this morning nr #Whitby

Two coastal plants, Slender Thistle and Wild Cabbage, at Cowbar, N Yorks. Sea cliffs are the natural habitat of Wild Cabbage, from which cultivated cabbages, kale, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts etc are descended. It's remarkably abundant at Cowbar.

Not sure if I was intruding on a private moment here or whether there was standing room only on the ledge, but look at the colour of this Kittiwake's tongue!

Bryoria fuscescens found on an Oak tree near Goathland is a rare lichen in VC62 !🙂

I know nothing about spiders but stumbled upon this stunner on the cliffs near Whitby amongst dry heath.Would love to know what it is !🙂
