Our Magnox legacy

In 1964 the Magnox Reprocessing Plant (the only one of its kind in the UK) came on line to reprocess fuel from the first generation of British reactors.

For this week's #Throwback we thought we'd take you down memory lane with some footage of the construction of the Windscale Pile Chimneys.

Chimney 1 still exists as a reminder of our history, and still stands in the heart of the Sellafield site (albeit, not as tall now!).

The very distinctive golf ball-shaped reactor is iconic to the Sellafield site. It finished its 20 year decommissioning programme back in 2011
