Two’fer Tuesday! Like rival gangs, Prairie Chickens & Sharptail grouse meet on the same lek & challenge each other on the Minnesota prairie. The Sharpies were really aggressive towards the Chickens. #prairie chickens #grouse #spring #minnesota #prairie

You never know who you'll meet when you visit a storm water retention pond. Hooded mergansers! Such tiny, fancy ducks

Dowitchers? It's early for them but pretty sure that's them. They were doing the sewing machine thing. No idea if long or short-billed but apparently that's an impossible distinction, so...

What a day! Just got back from a day at Last Mountain Lake, Canada's first wild bird sanctuary (est. 1887). I lost count of meadowlarks, tundra swans and pelicans. And the DUCKS. 45 bird species plus snake and toad and coyote. The weather was pretty nice, too

A duck tale in four parts:
1. Mallard pair lands on a pond and Mr. Mallard is surprised to find it solid
2. Dr. Mallard had better luck and splashed down in an open spot
3. Mr. considers his options, finds a spot and...
4. Ice-breaking is underway (look at his curly tail)
