Salvador Perez 𝙞𝙨 the Royals.

He's stuck with Kansas City through a rebuild, writes Sam Blum.

And now he's serving as a generational bridge through the team's 2024 renaissance.

.Mark Gubicza is technically still ahead of Shohei Ohtani on the all-time WAR standings. But he might have to come out of retirement to keep it that way.

I just found one of the wildest things I've seen in a while:

David Fletcher, yes THAT David Fletcher, struck out the side as a pitcher today for the Braves AAA team. And is he throwing a knuckleball?

He's thrown 2 scoreless innings this season, 3 K and 1 BB.

From the last time that Lance Lynn pitched at Angel Stadium.

No bunting against Lynn in the first inning today. And the Angels have crushed him for 4 runs.

Ron Washington sticking to what he said last night.

That he made the right call. That Luis Guillorme didn’t do his job. And that JoJo Romero had command of the zone.

Romero had thrown 14 balls/12 strikes.

Here are his comments: nytimes.com/athletic/54948…

Since 2021, there have been 50 bunt attempts on pitches at least 1.5 feet outside. (Not counting times when the hitter pulled back and it was a ball.)

In play: 7 (14%)
Foul: 20 (40%)
Miss: 23 (46%)

Of the 7 in play, only one was lower than 2 feet high. (more)

Luis Guillorme did what Ron Washington did not: Take responsibility.

And to be clear, he did not have to.

“I haven’t seen (what Washington said). He made a good a pitch. I didn’t get it down. I’ve got to try to put a bat on it. That’s it.”

This was failed bunt that Ron Washington sharply criticized Luis Guillorme for not landing.

Truly astonishing comments tonight.

FINAL: The Angels lose 7-6 to the Cardinals.

It was a good back-and-forth ballgame. But a costly decision to do a squeeze bunt in the 8th killed a potential game-tying/winning rally.

It's yet another series loss for the Angels.

LAA is 15-28, and 5-16 at home.

The Angels had the bases loaded and one out.

They attempted a squeeze play. Guillorme missed the bunt on an outside pitch. Neto was out at home. Then Guillorme struck out.

Cardinals reliever JoJo Romero had really been struggling to find the zone.

The Angels have come all the way back from 5 runs down to tie the game in the 5th.

Gray vs. Detmers had pitchers duel potential. But it's the offenses that went back and forth.

More very ugly baseball by the Angels.

A wild pitch scores one. Then a throwing error scores another.

2-0, Cardinals.
