🤔 #DYK The world’s largest digital camera is preparing to ship from SLAC to Rubin Observatory in Chile right now?!
Well, now you do.

10 years may seem like a long time for a photography project, but not when the the photos are mapping the cosmos. The team SLAC finished building the LSST Camera, as covered The Verge. Once it's installed Rubin Observatory, it will take photographs for a decade: theverge.com/2024/4/3/24120…
Tech similar to the type used for rewritable DVDs may one day be used for quantum computers. In DVDs, lasers shift the material between 2 phases. Rice University, Berkeley Lab, SLAC & Brookhaven Lab researchers found a phase-changing quantum material: news.rice.edu/news/2024/disc…
#DidYouKnow that there are 6 kinds of quarks? They're up, down, charm, strange, top, and bottom. Quarks and gluons are the building blocks of protons and neutrons. Learn about U.S. Department of Energy's research on quarks Brookhaven Lab, Jefferson Lab, SLAC & Fermilab: energy.gov/science/doe-ex…
🛠️ Hannah Pollek, SLAC mechanical engineer, gives us an inside look at how the LSST camera will photograph the southern night sky once it gets installed at Rubin Observatory.

🥰 Last week, 100+ SLAC staff gathered for a volunteer appreciation lunch, where we recognized staff who participated in SLAC programs or supported activities.
Thank you to our volunteers who help make our events and programs possible!

✨ Bon voyage!
LSST Camera project staff and partners gathered yesterday for a celebration before the world’s largest camera gets sent off to Chile. They were joined by Kathy Turner, program manager U.S. Department of Energy, which funded the camera construction and will support Rubin operations.
