How many years has it been since hoary puccoon has bloomed on the slice of land I now call my own? 100? 150?

The drought ends this year.

Farming isn’t a beauty contest, it’s a functioning contest. Guarantee this corn will be 10 bu + better than corn after soybeans alone. Oh…and we didn’t bale the straw. It’s worth more for my kids in 20 years.

landowner: hey, why is my evergreen i planted last fall dying?

me: well, the soil was very, very dry all fall and winter, so make sure to keep it well watered even with recent rainfall

landonwer: ok, i will! i also poured on some homemade milk fertilizer too!

I have a habit of getting too excited about new plants that I’ve started and planting them out in my prairie only to watch them seemingly die. Often times, I think they actually die too. But apparently a year or two ago, I planted a wood lily and against all hope, here it is!
