Did someone mention 'eggs'? Here are three catshark eggs with visible embryos swimming around their yolk sacs. Small-spotted catshark embryos (Scyliorhinus canicula) spend 9-12 months cocooned in these tight egg cases before emerging as a fully functional hatchlings. 🦈🥚

I’ve been noticing some courting behaviors between a few of the Dwarf Seahorse pairs. During courting, males will also inflate their brood pouch. This behavior usually occurs in the morning and will continue to occur until it’s time from the female to transfer the eggs to the male

The Blue Assessor (Assessor macneilli) is another beauty I photographer some years ago in the Great Barrier Reef and am looking forward to seeing again. It's found in other areas of the southwestern Pacific, but I only saw it in the GBR, where it was quite common.

In the world of Pipefish, it is quite common for the female fish to have flashy coloring to attract males. This is quite the contrast to many other animal species, where males use bright colors to attract female specimens. Can you tell which Chain Pipefish is the female?

I was so excited to present at the Indian River Lagoon Symposium again this year, this time as a graduate student! I was also excited to see my friends at A Rocha USA presenting the biodiversity study I helped with last year also!

Today was the first field day for my master’s thesis. I will be conducting gut content analyses on the Pipefish specimens we selected from today, to observe potential diet overlaps between the two species in the Indian River Lagoon.
