#OnThisDay in 1845: the Battle of Ferozeshah, fought between the British & the Sikhs at the village of Ferozeshah during the 1st Sikh War, took place.

It is celebrated by all three battalions of The Mercian Regiment to commemorate the action by the 80th Foot (Staffs Volunteers)

Today we were pleased to welcome our new Colonel-in-Chief, HRH The Prince of Wales, to The 1st Battalion, The Mercian Regiment.

His Royal Highness met with Soldiers from the Battalion, and went into the Salisbury Plain in a Warrior to observe an exercise.

It’s his first visit since becoming Colonel-in-Chief of the Regiment in the summer.

This morning soldiers and officers from The Mercian Regiment are attending services and laying wreaths at memorials and cenotaphs across the country.

Countless lives have been lost to war. We should remember the sacrifices given so that we may live.
