Asterix and Obelix were afraid of nothing - except the sky falling on their heads. Luckily, that’s impossible. Or is it? Learn about #meteorites , space rocks that fall on Earth, in kids’ lecture by Thorsten Kleine. Registration required! tinyurl.com/56b4hxwv Göttingen Campus
Coming up this week on Thursday is the next talk in our public lecture series “Was ist da draußen?” on #exoplanets . Vincent Böning from #MPSGoettingen will speak about the winds on #HotJupiters . In German. More infos here: mps.mpg.de/was-ist-da-dra… Göttingen Campus
As the team continues its work at #EsrangeSpaceCenter , #Sunrise_III is beginning to look like a complete solar observatory! @[email protected]
Lots of science and hands-on activities for the participants of today’s #FutureDay at #MPSGoettingen : learning about the life of #stars , studying #meteorites under a #microscope , working under #cleanroom conditions and drilling in our mechanics workshop. #Zukunftstag
Making progress! While members of the #Sunrise_III team from @[email protected] are preparing the telescope under the clean tent for the next flight, the gondola is also beginning to take shape.
Beautiful #PolarLights above #EsrangeSpaceCenter taken by members of the #Sunrise_III team from @[email protected]. #NorthernLights #AuroraBorealis
How can #atmospheres of #exoplanets be characterized and what do they tell about their planets? Miriam Rengel from #MPSGoettingen explains in the next talk in our lecture series “Was ist da draußen?” In German. More infos here: mps.mpg.de/was-ist-da-dra… Göttingen Campus
One year after the launch of ESA's Juice mission, scientists from the #SWI_JUICE Science Consortium are meeting at @[email protected] to prepare for the instrument’s upcoming activities: the next checkout window in July and the #Earth and #Moon #flyby in August.
Here’s a cool way to make astronomical use of a sieve! #MPSGoettingen scientist Sonia Cornejo-Patino witnessed last week’s #SolarEclipse2024 as a partial eclipse in Mexico and took these pictures. Thanks for sharing this idea of a multiple-pinhole camera! Max Planck Society
👉 Today: already 1 year from JUICE 🚀
👉SWI has been operated during Apr-Jul 2023 & Jan 2024🛰️📡

In order to correctly profile an #exoplanet from #spacetelescope observations, look closely at the host star’s magnetic field! Researchers led by #MPSGoettingen report on new model calculations today in Nature Astronomy. More here: tinyurl.com/2fny27ww Max Planck Society
While flying through uncharted territory close to #Venus , Bepi discovered escaping carbon ions. Reported today by scientists including #MPSGoettingen in Nature Astronomy. More here: tinyurl.com/46m6pvry @LabPhysPlams CNRS 🌍 École polytechnique Max Planck Society
Operation lightspeed! Just 25 hours after the arrival of the containers at #EsrangeSpaceCenter , members of the #Sunrise_III team from @[email protected] have pre-checked the #telescope ’s alignment and integrated the box carrying the postfocal instrumentation onto the telescope.
What an interesting day at the Max Planck Institute of Solar System Research @[email protected] in Germany! I hope I could enthuse some about #Venus research with my talk, and I learned a lot from others in return. #VERITAS #EnVision #science #MaxPlanckInstitute Max Planck Society

Here are some more beautiful pictures from yesterday‘s #SolarEclipse2024 as witnessed in Texas by #MPSGoettingen scientists. Many thanks to the photographers Sami Solanki, Pradeep Chitta and Hardi Peter for providing these!
Several scientists from #MPSGoettingen are currently attending the Joint Solar Orbiter, Parker Solar Probe, and DKIST Meeting in Texas - and enjoying the #SolarEclipse2024 ! Thanks for this lovely shot taken by #MPSGoettingen scientist Daniele Calchetti!
Data taken by ESA's Solar Orbiter’s instrument #PHI headed by #MPSGoettingen from the last few days is helping to predict the shape of the solar #corona as will be seen during today's #SolarEclipse2024 : predsci.com/corona/apr2024… Enjoy the preview! @PredSci
Almost there! The 1st members of the #Sunrise_III team have passed the #ArcticCircle and have almost reached #EsrangeSpaceCenter near #Kiruna . Enjoy the snow! ❄️SSC - Swedish Space Corporation
