Peter Higgs, a gentle kind man, passed away today. The Higgs mechanism will live on, of course, as a central part of the standard model of particle physics and indeed as a central part of physics today, as the origin of almost all mass in the universe.

How lucky was I? To be able to sit in my front yard and have my telescope track the sun and have munches and watch the moon’s shadow gobble up the sun! And bigger surprise here in PEI. Sunny, warm and no wind! First day since October. Who would have thought that?!!

It is just 3 souls out of many but war affects so many on all sides. Maybe this can do a bit of good in the midst of a war zone. gofundme.com/f/wztjsc-evacu…

The rover then spotted Phobos eclipsing the Sun in February. The video shows the transit in real time.

Phobos is the larger of the two Martian moons – coming in at a diameter of 14 miles (22 km). Eons from now, Phobos’ orbit is expected to send it toward the Martian surface.

I try not to focus on it, but can't help remembering, as I go out and do trivial errands, that two years ago today my mother (photo on her 100th birthday) died. I have written about her and that experience. It still haunts me. But life goes on... shorturl.at/rzBCT

Breaking News!

March came in at 1.68°C above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial baseline, making it the 10th consecutive month at an all time recorded high, and the 9th consecutive month breaking the Paris limit of 1.5°C.

Just spent the morning calculating a potential new physics signal that I thought could be game changing... problem is that when I plugged in the numbers, it was a billion times too small to be detectable. Sigh, a billion here, a billion there, pretty soon it adds up..
