🆕 Heads up: in today's After Effects Beta update (x21), Advanced 3D shading is more physically accurate, so your projects may look a little different - hopefully better!

The biggest changes are in specular behavior, and there should be less need to crank up light intensity.

💡 Fast way to create Advanced 3D shadow catchers in After Effects Beta: use the 3D Camera Tracker!

Select track points, right-click to add catcher/camera/light. Switch the light type to Environment and drop in your model. I like to color-pick a shadow color from the video, too.

This game is a good one y'all. We played a slightly earlier version and had a blast. There is a fun tension in the resource/resolution mechanic. The mystery and hypothesis build to a really cinematic peak. It's evocative as all get out. If you like weird Sci-Fi, give it a try!
