As of April 2024, our data reveals a grim reality: 92 women journalists are imprisoned globally, some facing life sentences or awaiting death. Behind these numbers lie tales of injustice, suppression, and the courage to fight for truth.

In today’s hearing, the Scottish Government commits to a consultation on the introduction of anti-SLAPP measures in the autumn. There’s no fixed date just yet, but the mood music is positive.

Malta's PM deliberately exposing magistrate to harm to (appear to) protect his predecessor from criminal liability.

Also, argument absurd on its own terms; why would magistrate disrupt low-stakes EP & village council elections if she could have terrorised (!) general elections?

Following last week’s Petitions Committee meeting, the Scottish Government has announced that it will be launching a consultation on SLAPPs - a big and welcome shift in government policy in response to Roger Mullin’s petition, and the submissions supporting it.

The Scottish Parliament Petitions Committee considered Roger Mullin’s anti-SLAPP petition earlier today. It was a genuine pleasure to engage in in-depth discussion with lawmakers about the need for anti-SLAPP laws, and routes to enactment.

I am very grateful to the Petitions Committee for the many interesting questions and comments posed during this morning’s session on my Anti-SLAPP petition. We now await the government’s response in a couple of weeks.

Opening question at petitions committee - is the government correct in adopting a reactive rather than proactive approach?

A big day for anti-SLAPP law in the UK tomorrow, and a big day for Aberdeen Law School’s Anti-SLAPP Research Hub.

Francesca Farrington and I will be at Scottish Parliament, and Erin Ferguson at the UK Ministry of Justice. Looking forward to productive discussions north and south of the border.
