Hey, All, we have two tickets to Belle & Sebastian in Chicago on Saturday night. Does anybody want them? We can't make the show, and I'd love somebody to use them. Let me know!

yes, I could see where someone might think this latest book is about the Civil War, in the 1860s, or something to do with it. I would say, though, it's more about war in the American landscape, then AND now, and a guy who maybe captured something of that. us.macmillan.com/books/97803747…

I like to do this now and again — promote the books that catch my eye with a giveaway. It’s a fun way to spotlight a publication that deserves attention and give something meaningful to some of my most engaged readers.

I wrote a piece for The Atlantic about how, just like we've seen with financial arbitrage, the internet makes it a lot harder to engage in 'cultural arbitrage' and why that may be contributing to the feeling of cultural stasis

I’m excited about this week’s giveaway because it’s a gorgeous piece of work from one of America’s greatest photographers about a critical topic. I’m sure many of you are familiar with Gordon Parks.
