We received reports of a dead fish at Bywell on the River Tyne yesterday.

Our teams responded and have investigated. There was no issue with water quality.

We have determined that this was most likely a natural event due to spawning stress.

Our Fisheries Enforcement Officers checked 425 anglers at 40 North East fisheries over the Bank Holiday weekend - with 23 people reported for illegal fishing.

They were working with partners at Angling Trust and Cleveland Police as part of #OpClampdown
