He was on active duty and well respected when Run Silent was published and made into a movie. That fame cost him admirals stars from a (jealous) silent service who considered that a distraction.

Warship Drama AncientSubHunter 🇺🇦 🇮🇱🌻 A seagoing tug would retrieve the orphaned 100-foot bow section, which the tug crew nicknamed the USS McKeesport after a neighboring city. “Sighted the suburb of Pittsburgh and have taken it in tow,” the tug crew reported.
