I made some new friends at the Great Barrier Reef - undoubtedly one of the most spectacular places I’ve visited. Scuba Diving has a risk value of 5 micromorts which means a 5 in a million chance of sudden death. Do you a think running a marathon has a higher or lower value?

Shoutout to the ladies of PymbleLC for being such a fabulous audience. I hope you had as much fun hearing about ‘Mathematical Modelling in Sport’ and ‘Using Maths to Save the Ocean’ as I did talking about them!

Hands down the coolest place I’ve been kayaking. Loved my time on the water in Sydney, even though we spent most of it dodging boats! In 2015 there were 4850 boat moorings in the harbour, with the number growing at 3% per year. If this continues in what year will it reach 10,000?

FINANCE HACK: divide your age by two, and that is the % of your income you 'ideally' want to save towards your pension.

It's not going to be possible for everyone, but it gives you something to strive towards - and a great way to practice your maths on National Numeracy Day! (5/n)

I particularly love the idea of the 50:30:20 ratio for essentials, 'nice haves', and savings. If only I can stop my impulsive shopping habits...

The final photo from the ‘Tattooed Academics’ exhibition Royal Museums Greenwich showcases a few of my many cartoon and video game characters. I’ll be very impressed if you can correctly name all 5!

Blue Mountains National Park, a 2-hour train ride from Sydney. Australia contains 33,000 km of railway, which is more than twice that of the UK. If the average speed is 70 kph, how long would it take to travel the entire Australian network? And what is the optimal route to do so?

There are 8000 Quokkas on Rottnest Island but this one is clearly the friendliest! The young are born 27 days after mating and a female matures sexually after 18 months. If they live for an average of 10 years, what is the maximum number of joeys (offspring) a Quokka can produce?
