Oil paintings of rare Indonesian Rafflesia species I've completed this morning:

Giant fennel is common in the hills of Sicily. Its inch-thick stems rise to the height of people. Seeing it always gives me a thrill.

A box-fresh wild iris we found here in the hills of Sicily:

Golden drops (Onosma echioides subsp. canescens) we found unfurling out of the rock, here in the hills of Sicily.

A beautiful wild orchid (Orchis brancifortii) seen today in the hills of Sicily.

Today I joined botanists from the University of Catania on an excursion into Sicily's wild valleys where we trekked forests filled with wild peonies and irises.

Went up a cliff today in search of Iberis semperflorens:

I'm standing on a hillside in Sicily that's spangled top to toe with wild irises (Iris pseudopumila).

Tonight I'm painting various Rafflesia species, the world's largest flowers, in oils.

Nepenthes burbidgeae is also known as 'the painted pitcher plant'; perhaps that's why I always seem to be painting it.
