Just as I took this picture, a large red damselfly landed on my wrist

With two garden warblers and a lesser whitethroat singing on my patch this morning, all ten of my breeding warblers are home.

You can hear a bullfinch in the LW clip and (sadly) a tractor in the GW clip.

Apple blossom in a hedge. A lapwing and a cuckoo singing. Could anything be more redolent of May?

Polecat?

Too large for stoat (around an inch). Polecat is now common roadkill half a mile north of here and two miles east.

In early May 2020, in this very spot, I heard a wonderful friend had died of Covid. I say his name every time I pass.

He’d have loved the sedge warbler, blackbird, song thrush and whitethroat singing just here and the reed bunting calling.

Fondly remembered by many.

I was just looking at this pool, thinking it deserved a green sandpiper, when one flew off it shouting.
