My walk to the gym is coloured by large red damselflies, large periwinkles, columbines and the quiet calls of bullfinches

At 0431 a swallow was singing from the telephone wire outside my house.

Now I can hear swifts hooliganning overhead.

Welcome back wild wanderers.

.Stop the Wensum Link 🍃💚🍃 are holding a Bioblitz at Ringland on 2nd June (unless the weather is very bad - reserve day is 7th July). There will be access to some privately-owned woodland as well as public areas. Do come along if you can. Advance notice is useful (see details below).

Nick Acheson If you know of anyone who would like a swift box, I have one languishing in my living room. I also have the cd to play to encourage them to investigate.

With two garden warblers and a lesser whitethroat singing on my patch this morning, all ten of my breeding warblers are home.

You can hear a bullfinch in the LW clip and (sadly) a tractor in the GW clip.

Polecat?

Too large for stoat (around an inch). Polecat is now common roadkill half a mile north of here and two miles east.

In early May 2020, in this very spot, I heard a wonderful friend had died of Covid. I say his name every time I pass.

He’d have loved the sedge warbler, blackbird, song thrush and whitethroat singing just here and the reed bunting calling.

Fondly remembered by many.

Less than a week until the funny, erudite Dr Erica McAlister and RagsandRuby visit Norwich to talk to Norfolk Wildlife Trust about their radio series together, their wonderful new book Metamorphosis, and the enthralling lives of insects (and the people who study them).
