It was the first day of meteorological #autumn yesterday, but conditions were dry and warm enough for a wildfire to occur at Chobham Common in Surrey. Fortunately this was spotted early and the fire service arrived on scene to contain it. Please continue to #BeWildfireAware 🔥

It's starting to look a little autumnal out on the #ThamesBasinHeaths But despite some drizzly grey skies so far this week, the heathland colours are still popping! Here's Warden Steve enjoying the views at Poors Allotment in Surrey! Explore Surrey's Countryside

For me, the Marsh Gentian sums up late summer at Chobham Common National Nature Reserve in Surrey. These vibrant blue, trumpet shaped flowers are just stunning. What's your favourite summer heathland species? ~Nicky #ThamesBasinHeaths #MoreThanJustNightjars Explore Surrey's Countryside

Thinking of ponds on this wet weather day! Breeding season may be over for much of our heathland wildlife, but for Ruddy Darter dragonflies there’s still time for some egg laying! If these eggs survive they may hatch next spring. #ThamesBasinHeaths #MoreThanJustNightjars

Spotted a flash of green buzzing in the air or scuttling past you? It may have been a Green Tiger Beetle! Education Officer Michael spotted two at Wildmoor Heath in Berks recently. Keep your eyes peeled this month and you may spot one! #ThamesBasinHeaths #MoreThanJustNightjars
