Where do I start? Shame in being a wheelchair user, use of the word lazy, panel & audience clapping at the fact he stopped using his aid despite needing it, the word bleak to describe disability life!

ITV do better! Infuriating & damaging to the community 😑

I’m an ambulatory wheelchair user and was a permanent wheelchair user. Luckily, I have the β€œgrit & determination” (said by your panel) to ignore the ableist standards in society and embrace my disability. Those who are less confident have now been set back because of your show.

Nicholas has prior form of speaking about essentially forcing himself to stop using his wheelchair despite it being at detriment to his health. Loose Women you’ll have known what he planned to discuss but did nothing to curb the dangerous messages.

Loose Women Nicholas cited wanting a girlfriend as a reason he stopped using his wheelchair. Are you out of your minds, ITV? Why did no panellist stop him? Disabled people can & do have relationships. I feel sexier than ever knowing I’m using my aid to help me stay healthy. This is NOT ok.

Loose Women ITV If your panellists and team had decent disability training- language, messaging, the reality of disabled life- we wouldn’t have this damaging messaging on air.

You can’t take away what you’ve broadcast. You have a responsibility to be inclusive but I saw nothing but ableism

Loose Women ITV From both guest, panelists and your entire team. The fact you clipped parts and uploaded them onto your huge social media audiences shows you have no idea of the damage you’ve done

Wheelchairs are amazing. Disability is cool. Ableism/applauding someone ignoring their body is not

Loose Women ITV I can’t even begin to imagine how your wheelchair using panelist sophie morgan is feeling right now. Everything she’s done over the years to promote disabled joy has just been crapped on.

Loose Women ITV sophie morgan Trigger warning:

You can see Sophie’s incredibly articulate response to this situation including clips from the segment on her Instagram.

Hollie-Anne Brooks πŸŽ€βœ¨πŸ©ΌπŸŒˆβš½οΈ Loose Women ITV sophie morgan Fabulously put. I can walk, short distances. It’s a deeply bad idea for me to try to walk more. The β€œlazy faker” tropes are so, so harmful - not least to those who internalise β€œwheelchair bad” to the point they harm & limit themselves by refusing to use aids they need!
