BREAKING: The USC Palestine Solidarity Encampment is being raided by LAPD and DPS campus police here at Alumni Park. Very difficult for press to gain entry.
STATEMENT OF THE UPV USC ON THE CONDITIONS OF THE UPV STUDENTS IN THE MIDST OF MIAG-AO 50° HEAT INDEX
While the UPV Administration encouraged remote/asynchronous classes on April 11, 2024, no further action was taken despite the heat index continuously exceeding 41°C.
That’s it for my coverage today. USC solidarity occupation has been swept for a second time, press were illegally restricted from covering the police operation, and no arrests were made.
This is what remains of the encampment at #USC - there isn’t anyone left inside from what we can see, only tents and signs. We have not heard from USC’s DPS who has led this operation to clear out Alumni Park. Last night, there were reports of as many as 100 occupants inside
“I do question how much the university administration understands the concept of free speech,” says USC journalism professor Afua Hirsch. “The point of free speech is that people have the right to say things that you might find uncomfortable or inconvenient,” she tells me.
I’m here at USC where pro-Palestinian student protesters continue occupying Alumni Park, even after the Solidarity Occupation was swept by police last week, resulting in 93 arrests.
