Shaakya Anand-Vembar (she/her) speaks for all of us here.

This review has come as a result of grassroots campaigning by PhDs, let's make sure our voices are heard in it.

Simon Harris TD must engage with @pgwa_ie and take action once review is completed.

This payment for PhDs must be substantial. We wont benefit from tax credits for renters or some of the other COL measures but we are struggling

Significant this payment is offered, PhD campaigning has put this issue on the agenda, let's keep it up @pgwa_ie

Average PhD stipend: ~€16k

TD salary, before expenses or allowances: €102,204

TD salaries have increased several times since this govt took office. PhD stipends (for some) have been increased once in the last decade.

The government claims that research and innovation are important to the future of Ireland but time and time again they show that they have absolutely no respect or interest in those of us who are doing that research. (7/7)

In a cost-of-living crisis with rents and bills skyrocketing, PhD Researchers receive a yearly stipend of €18,500 max (less than minimum wage). Many PhD Researchers receive much less than this!

Today I spoke up for @PhDRights at the USI student walkout because Simon Harris TD needs to show that they are serious about funding education and research in Ireland! PhD researchers need to be paid a living wage to do their research efficiently @pgwa_ie

More meat on the Budget bones: €1,000 refund in this year’s third-level student contribution, retroactively reduced to €2k; a double payment for students on a maintenance grant (who don’t pay the above) and a cost-of-living payment for PhDs before Christmas Virgin Media News
