Plastic whale, choking on a plastic ball, next to a discarded mask. Not what I thought I'd find on a walk along the beach, but somehow a poignant marker of the times.

Mae Ram Phueng beach in Rayong is gorgeous, but devastatingly covered in washed up rubbish.

The sea is beautiful and clear, but who wants to swim in detritus?
