Black Mufasa in Tasmania approaching a Macropod carcass. I’m thinking Kangaroo, but does anyone dispute?

If someone saw one of these Australian bush feral out on the streets of New York City, people will run. No one will be associating them with moggies.

Such a unique-looking macropod, the 'golden phase' swamp wallaby. Hadn't seen him in a while and he just zoomed by (chased by a large male eastern grey kangaroo) while I was birdwatching with a friend. Good surprise!

Tree-kangaroos are deeply nested within the macropod radiation, right? Could they actually be 'primitive' forms, the tree-climbing ancestors of terrestrial macropods? Welcome to the 'Tree-Kangaroos Come First' hypothesis... (an article I published in 2011) web.archive.org/web/2015060201…

Meet a Quokka, aka the world’s happiest animal, aka a Short-Tailed Scrub Wallaby. He is a small macropod about the size of a domestic cat. Like other marsupials in the macropod family (such as kangaroos and wallabies), the Quokka is herbivorous and mainly nocturnal.

'Marsupials-you've-probably-never-heard-of'!!!

The musky rat-kangaroo is the smallest macropod (kangaroos, wallabies etc.) &, as the name suggests, has a distinctive musky odour...

They also have an opposable 5th digit!

Beautiful Quokka & baby 😍

They move very quickly. They are able to run at a speed of 50 km / h and jump several times higher than their own height.
The quokka (Setonix brachyurus) is a small macropod about the size of a domestic cat. It is the only member of the genus Setonix.

Saw my first musky-rat kangaroo this morning. Very small rainforest-dwelling omnivorous macropod with a gorgeous rusty red to deep grey pelagic. I was stoked
