1963: Built at Portsmouth Naval Yard in Kittery, Maine, the USS Jack (SSN 605) was launched. She was sponsored by Mrs. Grace Groves, the wife of Lt. Gen. Leslie Groves, who had been the head of the Manhattan Project. She was commissioned on March 31, 1967.
