Krautrock is in the running for my favorite genre, period. There might not be a better example of pure unbridled creativity with near unlimited freedom.

Classical, jazz, psychedelic, prog, folk, funk, avant-garde, all of it got mixed together in 70s Germany with no restriction.

I guess I listen to fucking Captain Beefheart and Scott Walker, maybe I'm just immune to weird voices at this point.

I voted Dylan, because I think he's probably the most 'controversial' off this list.

But I've never really understood disliking a singer's voice unless it doesn't, idk, fit the music.

I've never had difficulty listening to any of these singers...

Art Rock transformed rock in the 60s, and set the precedent for what would come over the next decade.

Whether it was absolutely genre defying, like the VU or Frank Zappa, or if it was just pleasant fusions of rock, folk, and classical, like Pet Sounds, art rock changed the game.

I love when I'm editing and I'm listening to us talk, and I start nodding along like 'yeah, I really agree with this Ketho guy.'

And then I have to remind myself, you fool, Ketho is YOU.

The floaty, nocturnal, alternatively haunting and beautiful genre of Dream Pop, which really is just Cocteau Twins-core, defined so much of my favorite music from the 80s and 90s.

Lush production creating ethereal soundscapes that would pave the way for post-rock and shoegaze.

Please drop another singer that you think has a 'controversial' voice in the comments.

My add: Billy Corgan

...and would have a much harder time listening to any given bland hair band vocalist from the 80s than Bob Dylan or Geddy Lee.

Didn't even realize that people disliked Lee.

Someone said Jon Anderson in the comments. Jon Anderson? Really? He sounds perfectly normal, like idk...
