I love both of these guys and I've always wanted to do a mass planting of them somewhere. The bloom times line up almost perfectly, so it would be kind of a one-and-done display, but a knockout I think. (Echinacea purpurea 'green twister' and Allium sphaerocephalon)

Was able to overwinter Echinacea paradoxa. It’s now flowering. Bush’s coneflower is the only naturally yellow native echinacea. It’s a tall species (not to be confused with the pink Echinacea simulata which share the common name Ozark coneflower)

Grow your own Medicine.

Part of becoming self-sufficient is being able to treat your own medical issues. Here are a few basics:

- Comfrey. For treating bruises, swelling, sprains, etc
- Echinacea. Boost immune system
- Horehound. Cough suppression

What else should we grow?

Some really neat glade flora from some limestone cedar glades in central Tennessee:

Echinacea tennesseenis (Tennessee Coneflower), a Coneflower endemic to 5 or 6 limestone glades in Tennessee!

1-4 Tennessee Coneflower

This little bunch of echinacea is in a hidden space in my garden. Too pretty not to be seen. I must separate it next year and move half to a better spot 😉 Good night!

Herb tip and solution.
Tip: Do not allow the herbs to flower. Pinch off centers & flower spikes regularly.
Solution: If you don't need any more of that herb dried, make flower arrangements.
Zinnias w/ Basil
Echinacea w/rosemary, purple basil and parsley flowers
