Auschwitz was a fun place.

There were orchestras, plays, and soccer matches as entertainment right before the Jews were forced into fake gas chambers that only the Russians happen to find during liberation.

20 April 1928 | A Jewish boy, Yoseph Wacholder, was born in Tel Aviv, British Mandate for Palestine. He lived in Paris.

He arrived at #Auschwitz on 7 August 1942 in a transport from Beaune-la-Rolande with his mother Dasza. They were probably murdered after the selection.

19 April 1943: Belgian partisans attack a Nazi German train carrying #Jews to Auschwitz. Transport No. 20 left Mechelen with 1,631 Jews. 233 people attempted to escape, 26 were shot, 89 were recaptured and 118 successfully escaped. #WWII #WW2 #history #ad amzn.to/2xxu0ye

18 April 1895 | A Jewish woman, Maria Olga Weinberger, was born in Chust / Huszt. A pharmacist.

In May 1944 she was deported to #Auschwitz and murdered in a gas chamber.

20 April 1926 | A Czech Jewish woman, Mariana Brodová, was born in Prague.

In #Theresienstadt Ghetto from 10 December 1941.
Deported to #Auschwitz on 28 October 1944 together with her mother Terezie.
They both did not survive.

Jewish resistance fighter Freddie Knoller, who survived Auschwitz, celebrates his 103rd birthday today.

April 19, 1943 | Simon Gronowski is deported with 1,631 Jews from German-occupied Belgium to #Auschwitz . Three resistance fighters –in picture– stopped the train which allowed his escape from the 20th Convoy. He stayed in hiding with his father. He is 92 today.

19 April 1926 | A German Jewish girl, Gretl Sonnenberger, was born in Schweinfurt.

In 1943 she was deported to #Auschwitz . She did not survive.

19 April 1874 | A Dutch Jews, David Wessel, was born in Rotterdam.

In October 1942 he was deported from #Westerbork to #Auschwitz . After the selection he was murdered in a gas chamber.

16 April 1947 | SS-Obersturmbannführer Rudolf Höss, the first commandant of the German Nazi camp #Auschwitz was executed by hanging after he was sentenced to death by the Supreme National Tribunal in Warsaw.

April 18, 1943 | 2,501 Jewish men, women and children from the ghetto in Salonica arrive in #Auschwitz from occupied #Greece . Ca. 2,271 of these people are killed in the gas chambers as soon as they arrive, right after the “selektion” has taken place.

18 April 1907 | A Frenchman, Lucien Bellet, was born in Sotteville-lès-Rouen. A metal turner.

May 19, 1943 | Resistance fighter, Polish woman Helena Plotnicka is arrested in #Auschwitz & locked in Block 11. She brought food, medications and mail into the main camp & smuggled prisoner’s reports and letters out. She died in #Auschwitz of typhoid on March 1944.
