This week, Effect Hope joined dozens of international development and global health organizations in welcoming the $350 million investment in humanitarian aid committed in the 2024 Federal Budget. Many international needs deserve attention, so why do we focus on NTDs?🧵

We are relieved 🇨🇦 will invest an additional $350 million over 2 years in humanitarian aid in #Budget2024 . We hope to leverage Canada’s investment in its G7 Presidency next year to continue to champion investments in #GlobalHealth & NTD elimination strategies for a healthier🌍

The World Health Organization (WHO) #NTDRoadmap2030 and Eastern African countries are laying out plans to sustainably eliminate visceral #leishmaniasis . If proven to be effective, LXE408 could contribute to these elimination goals. #NTDs

We heard from Laura Dean about the inclusion of persons affected by NTDs within this supplement, which hopefully will encourage the NTDs field to consider the voices of persons affected within research, implementation and policy moving forward

Investing in NTD care, research, and education reduces the long-term impacts of disease and helps break cycles of poverty. In many places, we have seen NTDs greatly reduced or eliminated through joint efforts put forth by multiple players across the globe.

NTDs disproportionately affect some of the world’s most vulnerable populations. Addressing them is essential for achieving goals related to health, poverty reduction, education and gender equity. Healthier populations are also more productive, supporting economic development.
