Just a follow-up re: yesterday. So, Riel was hanged to death at the NWMP barracks in Regina which, since 1885, has served as the force's training facility. To clarify, Mounties still get trained at the spot where Riel was killed by the state. That's some symbolism.

What a terrible and false equivalency. As a direct descendant of 2 men in this photo and a relative to others, I am disgusted at the comparison of complaining about being asked to wear masks to fighting genocide and the denial of human rights to an entire people.

Louis Riel was executed by 135 years ago today.

Riel was sentenced to hang by the neck until dead.

The fall through the trap door did not break his neck.

Louis Riel choked and struggled for four minutes while Canada's noose strangled him to death.
