Today is Louis Riel Day (in Manitoba). Riel was a political leader of the Métis people, he led 2 resistant movements against the gov of Canada & sought to defend Métis rights ♾✊🏾 My family is related to him thru marriage of his half sister. #LouisRielDay
Just a follow-up re: #LouisRielDay yesterday. So, Riel was hanged to death at the NWMP barracks in Regina which, since 1885, has served as the force's training facility. To clarify, Mounties still get trained at the spot where Riel was killed by the state. That's some symbolism.
Today is #LouisRielDay , a time to commemorate the life of Louis Riel & celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Métis Peoples. Peel District School Board Ts, pls see Broadcast pg & FNMIEAO.com for learning ideas PDSB Indigenous Department

Aujourd’hui il y a 135 ans, le Canada commettait une des pires injustices de son histoire. #JournéeLouisRiel | Today 135 years ago Canada committed one of the worst injustices of its history. #LouisRielDay
What a terrible and false equivalency. As a direct descendant of 2 men in this photo and a relative to others, I am disgusted at the comparison of complaining about being asked to wear masks to fighting genocide and the denial of human rights to an entire people.
