16 Apr 1917, during dummy attack near Harwich, HM Submarine C16 accidentally struck by HMS Melampus. Filling up with water, one crew went out torpedo tube to summon aid but drowned. Rest flooded torpedo area & tried to open escape hatch but it only opened 10 in. All drowned.
