Iain Mansfield You have no clue how hard it is to get an EHCP. No one would go through the stress if it wasn’t needed. When you get one you still have to fight. Would you like to buy my golden ticket. It’s worthless to my child who is out of school. The £ would help pay my solicitor.

This is genuinely the most pathetic thing I have had the misfortune of reading. As a student who has just left Y13, with an EHCP, they are in no way easy to receive. Access to assistance on educate when disabled or ND is incredibly closed off and creates serious issues (1)

4. Stop the SEND explosion in schools.

The number of pupils issued with Education, Health and Care Plans has doubled in the last eight years.

There are some cases of genuine need - but many are responding to incentives where an EHCP is a golden ticket.

I don’t think anyone who has had to apply for an EHCP for a child would describe them as being easily issued of in any way a “golden ticket”. This analysis sounds very much like an “in my day” reading of things.

The new EHCP statistics: 22/23 are out- 📈A total of 344,883 children *identified* with SCLN needs. The primary need in schools.

There are only approx 18.3k SALTs in the UK. Unknown what % paeds working with this pop but there’s not enough of us.

Parent blaming is a key strategy for those who are less informed or trained that way. There is no pot of gold at the end of the EHCP rainbow and only good SENCOs and supportive schools that get it right. There are many poor performing SENCOs plus school #WeAreRichmond

SEND pupils no EHCP: 1,183,384. I’m yet to meet a parent of a child with a EHCP who regards them as a ‘golden ticket’.
