My ConservativeHome piece on Liz Truss’s thoughts on her time at the MoJ. She calls for the Judicial Appointments Commission to be abolished & that senior judges should be appointed by the Lord Chancellor. That’s a bad idea & not a policy at the time. conservativehome.com/2024/04/22/dav…
A “messy and chaotic battle against some deeply embedded vested interests & those on our own side who seek to appease them” cannot be avoided, says Truss. “VOTE TORY FOR MESSY & CHAOTIC BATTLES” is quite the election slogan. My The New Statesman piece. newstatesman.com/culture/books/…
I’ve taken a closer look at Truss’s chapter on her time at the Ministry of Justice for ConservativeHome and, in particular, her plans to politicise the judiciary. Proper British conservatives should have nothing to do with them. conservativehome.com/2024/04/22/dav…
A Trussian mindset that treats all criticisms & allegations as merely nonsense from wrong-headed opponents is all very well but sometimes those criticisms & allegations should at least be taken seriously. My The New Statesman piece on the Rayner story. newstatesman.com/comment/2024/0…
In Ten Years to Save the West, Truss has lessons for the Conservative Party. They’re just not the ones she thinks. My review for The New Statesman. newstatesman.com/culture/books/…
David Gauke The New Statesman This passage is incredible - to admit that she didn’t take any time to model the figures, thinking that it would look weak to be double checking things. She clearly went ahead with a wild concept regardless even if caused “chaos”.
‘He chose to manage the Conservative Party rather than lead the country’
David Gauke on why Rishi Sunak has stuck with #Rwandabill .
A pleasing demolition of Liz Truss‘ new book by David Gauke highlighting a key point: Some of her arguments get v.close to conspiracy theories.
I would argue that propensity to fall for, or, worse, promote those, is a bigger threat to the West than the failure of Ms Truss agenda.
“...the tale of a politician with a simplistic mindset and a reckless temperament who should never have reached the top of British politics and whose ministerial career culminated in personal humiliation.”

David Gauke ConservativeHome 'Truss’s history is confused'
A generous description. 'Deceitful' is probably more appropriate.
From David Gauke: Conservatives should have nothing to do with Truss' goal of Americanising our judiciary conservativehome.com/2024/04/22/dav…
Rory Stewart David Gauke I think Ian Dunt is right on the money in this analysis. RIP One Nation Conservatism.
This morning ConservativeHome, David Gauke, our columnist, argued that Conservatives should have nothing to do with Liz Truss's goal of Americanising our judiciary. Why? A thread. bit.ly/4d1kwdr
Magnificently damning review of #LizTruss 's ludicrous new book by David Gauke in The New Statesman. And I speak as someone just given a copy as a gag gift by Owain Thomas newstatesman.com/culture/books/…
