Remind me of a job where you are on call 24/7, have no holiday entitlement, are paid less than £3 per hour (may be paid nothing at all). No training or support in most cases.
This is the reality for unpaid carers! Many don't get Carers Allowance, no respite, no help at home.

Simplify the benefits system.

Carers have enough to do keeping someone basically ALIVE.

We don’t have time for bloody spreadsheets, accountants & paperwork as easy to understand as Sumerian.

These overpayments to carers are the fault of a deliberately cruel system.

Today the Carer’s Leave Act which I passed through Parliament comes into force! The law allows unpaid carers 5 days of leave to help manage their employment and caring responsibilities. The work carers do is vital yet often under appreciated.

DWP overpays carers allowance, says it an “honest mistake” but sends poor people to prison. Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt investigated for money laundering for avoiding £100,000 stamp duty and fails to tell the Parliamentary register, calls it “an oversight” … nothing happens.

Tirana will invest €1 million to build 20 “school streets” in 2024, which redesign corridors around the needs of kids and their carers.

This will double the number of such interventions, and get it 40% of the way towards its goal of protecting every neighborhood school by 2026.

Someone explain to me why, if you work 10 hours in a skilled job such that you earn more than £120 a week you shouldn't be entitled to carers allowance if you are actually providing the 35 hours of care? Why do you need to be kept in poverty?

The persecution of carers is mind numbingly cruel and completely unnecessary. They are doing a vital service that the state fails to provide. Carers should be valued,paid more, debt cancelled and thanked. We owe them that at least.

Total respect to We Care Campaign a great campaigning organisation actually standing up for carers.

The sheer cruelty of DWP is off the charts - and against unpaid carers of all people. One of my constituents inadvertently went over payment threshold at an extremely traumatic time, offered to pay it back and had to pay £1300 fine on top or be prosecuted. Absolutely shameful.

How Labour have completely lost my vote. How about spending on peace, the NHS, welfare, the arts, and human rights for disabled people and carers, #ExcludedUK compensation for all those persecuted for 'not voting Tory'??
