Well done to Liz Dunkley, catering assistant at Hinkley, who has led the approach to recycling in two catering units and encourages others to follow her lead. Liz also engages with our customers to recycle their waste items and drink containers when returning their trays.

Unused staff uniform is being donated to our local homeless charity, Open Door in Taunton. We hope the shirts and trousers will help those who are in need of smart items for job interviews and want to look the part when approaching potential employers. @tauntonopendoor

Our commitment to the environment. More than 75% of our plastic free packaging and disposable cups are made from plant based materials, which biodegrade within 12 weeks. In addition, 95% of packaging comes from sustainable sources, with little or no use of single use plastic.

Since 2017 we have collected more than 6,300 bins of food waste, which equates to an estimated weight of 19.18 tonnes. This was transferred to a local anaerobic digester and then turned back into electricity and pumped back into the National Grid, keeping us carbon neutral.

Our chefs are very talented at producing on a large scale, whilst keeping that crucial personal, hand made touch needed for all great food. So creating 4,550 perfect cup cakes for a big event tomorrow is an absolute breeze for them! (As well as 800 breakfast muffins.)

Today marks the fifth year since construction at Hinkley Point was given the official green light. More than 6,000 people are currently working at the site, compared to just 1,500 at the height of the pandemic last year. There will be various celebrations this week.

A big shout out to our star baker Rosemary, who made all the cupcakes for today’s fifth anniversary celebrations at Hinkley. A total of 4,550 mini cakes, which were individually hand iced by the team. Amazing! More than 800 breakfast muffins are now being served too!
