Greg Gutfeld identifies as a comedian. He should know the topic of cancer is a comedy killer. Most comedians avoid it. If he wants to criticize Katie Couric he should probably avoid joking about colonoscopies. Her husband died from colon cancer. 1 in 3 Americans get cancer.

A great follow-up story might be to compare how much is paying to protect its governor with how much states of similar size pay to protect theirs - IA, KS, MS, UT, NV.

Sarah Sanders wanted a lectern similar to the one at her inauguration, but 5โ€ shorter.

Why couldnโ€™t one of the incompetents in her office just say that to a local woodworker instead of paying Virginia Beckett $2500 to fail to relay that message to a NY craftsman?

Actually, Judd Deere, taxpayer money WAS used to purchase the lectern, in the form of a state credit card. The 'determination' that it was 'preferable' that private funds be used instead came after Matt Campbell started asking inconvenient questions.

'We are pleased that the final audit report proves what we've said all along...that no laws were broken.' -Sarah Sanders' Dep. Chief of Staff Judd Deere, apparently unaware of what words mean.

Not suspicious at all that the lectern suddenly reappears after months of being AWOL & paid for by Arkansas GOP. Or is this perhaps a semi-clever ruse to distract us from the audit report?

Gov. Sanders' chief legal counsel and deputy chief of staff said yesterday that buying a lectern for $19K was 'not a mistake' and โ€œperfectly legal.โ€ Lawmakers from both parties continued to ask questions prompted by the audit report examining the purchase.

.The Washington Post story on hearing: 'Deere said that no members of the governorโ€™s staff were fired or disciplined for their actions regarding the lecternโ€™s purchase and the government records about it. 'Nor should they be''

So, I'm proud to announce the launch of Dr. Rich's Lectern Consultants. We'll help you buy an overpriced lectern that doesn't meet specs & promise not to talk to investigators if they start asking pesky questions. And we'll drill holes in your furniture for free!

The audit turned up a new itemized expense included in the $19,025 total: a $2,500 'consulting fee' for buying a thing to stand behind while speaking. What's the hourly rate on furniture consulting these days ans how can I get in on it?

It would be great if members of the would compel Sarah Huckabee Sanders to explain why her office did not obtain the necessary information from vendors to complete the audit. It reeks of obstruction. arkansasbusiness.com/article/state-โ€ฆ

From Arkansas Times story on yesterday's hearing: Head of Legislative Audit did set up a meeting to interview Gov. Sanders but left because AG staffer, legislators were in the room; says it was 1st time he'd seen 'someone try to include outside parties.'

D-G's johnbrummett offers pointed summary of what auditors found: 'We found this lectern purchase to be a curious mess, to the extent that we could find out much of anything considering that Gov. Sarah Sanders wouldn't talk to us, and the vendors wouldn't either.'

In Sept., Alexa Henning said the lectern was never supposed to be purchased with state funds & was an โ€œaccounting error.โ€

Yesterday, Judd Deere said the opposite.

One of them is, by definition, a liar. Yet Sarah Sanders keeps both on 6-figure salaries. bluehogreport.com/2023/09/25/podโ€ฆ

Things Arkansans were told that weren't true:
1) Gov. Sanders's office cooperated fully with audit.
2) Original plan was for Arkansas GOP, not the state, to buy the lectern.
3) Podium modified for sound & to fit the governor.
4) 'Standard operating procedures' were used

Perspective matters.

The median income in Nevada County, AR is $20k. It is $40k in Benton County.

Sarah purchased ONE $19,000 lectern for what an Arkansan in Willisville makes in an ENTIRE year. It cost half the average annual income of Arkansans living in Bentonville.
