India signed MoUs on Recognition of Certificates of Competency of Seafarers with several countries, paving the way for the governments to mutually recognize certificates of maritime education, training, competency, endorsements & medical fitness of seafarers issued by each other

MoPSW feels proud to inform that Standards of Accessibility for person with Disabilities, Divyangjan, for passenger shipping services DGS Order is formulated & issued. This will enable Divyang Empowerment persons to have special facilitates in passenger shipping services in India.

Infrastructure development & capacity augmentation of Ports is a continuous process. As a result, total cargo traffic handled by 12 major ports is on the rise & has reached 12.31 Million TEUs in FY 2023-24 as compared to 11.39 Million TEUs in FY 2022-23, an improvement of 8 %.

MoPSW commemorates the 61st National Maritime Day with a Sports meet today to celebrate the spirit of our maritime community. Shri T.K. Ramachandran, Secretary, MoPSW addressed occasion underscoring the importance of our maritime heritage & it's role in our nation's prosperity.

In FY 2023-24, major ports saw substantial investment exceeding Rs. 12,500 Cr through capital infusion & sanctioning & awarding of Public Private Partnerships. This investment is poised to enhance infrastructure, boost efficiency, drive economic growth in the maritime sector.

Today, MoPSW celebrates the 6lst National Maritime Day in commemoration of the sailing of the first Indian flag vessel 'SS Loyalty' on her maiden voyage from Mumbai to London in the year 1919. This event marks the entry of India into the world of modern international shipping.

That's impressive! India's ports under MoPSW experiencing steady growth, indicating positive developments in the country's trade & logistics sectors. In 2023–2024, India's 12 major ports have handled the highest ever Cargo of 819.4 Million Metric tonnes.

Regular commuters & transporters have been immensely benefitted with the construction of Ro-Ro Jetty at Ghodbunder, Dist. Thane, by MoPSW under it's SAGARMALA scheme. The jetty provides water transport to decongest the vehicular traffic
on Mumbai Ahmedabad National Highway.
