[10] days of life, weight gain starts
[20]g/day for infants less than 2kg
[30]g/day for term infants

Mnemonic sa kernicterus ay “BBBBBBilirubin!”

Bilirubin crossing the Blood-Brain Barrier commonly deposits in the Basal ganglia and Brainstem nuclei.

By 2 weeks, the BBB should have fused/closed; hence, kernicterus is less likely after 2 weeks of life.
