There’s nothing quite like it! In any season, the graceful weeping “umbrella form“ of our native elm trees is unmistakable, and visible from miles away. Baltimore Orioles love building their hanging nests in them.

Heading up to Wasaga Beach for another eco landscape installation with Grow With Us Landscaping. These views on Airport Road always get me. Just wow!

Do you have to garden under acidic soil conditions? If so, why not pick up a copy of my co-authored book. Makes a great Mother's Day gift!

Heads up! The box tree moth caterpillars are already out and feeding. Saw many yesterday in Burlington down by the lake. We’re going to be replacing those ones with a mix of species, including Golden Oriental White Cedar and Brown’s Yew.

Something we don’t think enough about are the pretty early flowers of native trees, like these Red Maples (Acer rubrum)! Great for early pollinators AND lovely fall colour to boot!

Look who’s blooming in my lawn! This little beauty is Labrador Violet, and it is food for a lovely little butterfly called the Meadow Fritillary. A diverse lawn is better for wildlife.

Not often you get to prune something like this Weeping Blue Atlas Cedar, especially when it’s when you planted back in 2011! 😁

1 of 2) You probably know my belief that one should never sacrifice beauty when designing a goal-oriented landscape (rain garden, Fusion, veggie, etc.). That’s why I created my ‘Appetite for Gardening: Incorporating Edible Plants into the Traditional Landscape’ speech.

Our new rain gardens are really working hard, catching surface runoff before it takes its nutrient load to our pond, causing excess algae. Simple since we put them in the centre of the drainage swale, using the excavat to build a shallow berm, slowing it/soaking it in.
