I'm in a technically abusive relationship, but because I'm not in immediate physical danger and there's no children involved, my options for free or reduced legal aid to get OUT of said relationship are practically nonexistent - usually I would have to be homeless to qualify.

Years ago, Canada began testing a basic income of $1,400/mo with an additional amount of $500/mo for those with disabilities so that they got $1,900/mo. Today Canada's federal government is celebrating a new $200/mo disability benefit. Wow... That certainly seems a touch too low.

Bears fan in the Rockies Scott Santens Rant Milk The idea that a society & its associated economy must rest on a foundation of a large body of people who do unpleasant or dangerous work for low pay because their alternative is death is fundamentally immoral and obscene. No society should accept this state of affairs.

Scott Santens When my body first broke, one of my siblings suggested I get pregnant, so I would qualify for assistance.
Like that would solve all the problems, wouldn't create new ones, and wasn't totally ethically and morally screwed up in the first place.

What if all education was free? What if healthcare was a given? What if, on top of all that, everyone received a basic income that covered the essentials? We'd have a society where everyone can truly choose their path. UBI isn't an expense; it's an investment in human potential.

'If you make benefits universal. And you, Angela, accept a system in which many of the benefits are universal, such as child benefit and so on... That reduces the stigma. That's really important for families.'

Exactly.

UBI empowers local economies by investing Directly in the community.
By increasing the disposable income of residents, it creates a ripple effect of spending that strengthens local businesses, promotes job creation, and ultimately leads to a higher standard of living.
